DIY Projects Can Become Complicated

We start home improvement projects with the best intentions.  We want to use our own abilities, grow our experience, do a project exactly the way we want it done, and save some money in the process.

Many Do-It-Yourselfers meet all of these goals, and many do not.  The growth of online DIY how-to videos and home improvement shows have motivated us to try projects and made us confident we can figure things out.

Much of this content, however, doesn't explain key tricks and none of it is specific to your home or vision.  As a result, mistakes are made and many people feel confused and could use a little guidance to be successful.

AVOIDING HIDDEN COSTS AND TIME LOST

I am here to help.  My name is Pete Blunda and I am a longtime resident of Gorham and a finish carpenter by trade.

I started Maine DIY because I saw a need for this type of help for Do-It-Yourselfers.  For the past decade, I worked at Cook's Hardware in downtown Gorham.  In that time, I lost count of the number of people who came in asking for advice on a project where they had made a mistake or didn't understand how to solve a problem.  Everything from buying and operating powered saws to fixing windows to renovating bathrooms.  I have heard some stories!

At Cook's, I was only able to give brief advice and couldn't see the problem myself or help directly.  Maine DIY is designed to change this by helping people avoid the cost and time of avoidable DIY project mistakes.

I help you plan, review your project and site for unique issues, help you complete the project if you cannot do it all yourself, add custom-designed pieces, and can put you in touch with trustworthy tradespeople if you need a pro's help.

I build custom-designed pieces in my local workshop.  My work is in homes and businesses from Massachusetts to Maine and ranges from traditional to modern in style.

Testimonials

Pete was a sanity saver for me. Getting my mother’s house ready to sell was taking longer than my handyman and I had hoped so I asked Pete to come and take a look. He was so wonderful! He totally understood that we only needed to do the basics. Being a finish carpenter, he saw other things he would have loved to do, but he didn’t try to pressure us into doing more than we needed to do. He helped by doing some things (he put up a beautiful ceiling in our mud-room), giving helpful advice, collaborating with another carpenter, and being incredibly kind and supportive. We couldn’t have done it without him!!!!
